Portrait photographs assembled with fragments of recognised artworks. The accompanying text considers borrowed authority: the cultural recognition and public attention that enter a new image with its borrowed source.

During lockdown, older model portraits were covered with liquid acrylic and later interpreted through a commissioned text about mould and fungi. The project records a return to art through material pleasure and an early attempt to delegate the language of the work to someone else.

A return to Nansen Street in Rostov-on-Don, remembered as wild and charged, meets an unexpectedly ordinary landscape. Fourteen photographs use handmade optics, sunlight and in-camera colour replacement to make recognition flicker between houses, garages, passing bodies and near-abstraction.

Ten photographs made through a train window. Movement, glass and the camera repeatedly alter the landscape, cutting, reflecting, smearing and recolouring it before the final image turns towards the empty carriage from which the sequence was seen.
